What is a Maker Space?
At Social Motion it's where the fun, cool stuff happens - where students gather to explore, create, and learn not only tech skills vital for today's world, but also the social skills crucial to engage in the high-tech work force when they graduate. For many of our students with high-functioning autism and brilliant minds, this Maker Space is where they shine, find camaraderie, self-esteem and confidence to forge a path of STEM-based success. For many students with unknown or undeveloped talents, they discover detail-oriented abilities and startling aptitudes of memory, spatial awareness, and hyper creativity. This is where you want your kid hanging out.
Social Motion - leading the way in creative, collaborate STEM learning for our future engineers!
Featuring robotics and programming (Minestorm and VEX IQ), 3-D design with Inkscape, Tinkercad, and SketchUp, MakerBot 3-D Printers, Vinyl Cutting, personal video creation and something new every week! Maker Space access for ages 8+.
Fall 2017 - AFTER SCHOOL ROBOTICS - SCHOOL AGES
3-5th grades | Thursdays 4:30 - 5:30 | ROBOTICS
Makers Space Robotics: Our robotics area of study provides students with age/skill appropriate builds and challenges that include programming for remote controlled robots as well as autonomous robotics systems.
Build the skills to join the exciting world of engineering robotics! This course uses customized, hands-on activities, LEGO Minestorms robotics and/or VEX IQ kits to launch into one of the most high-tech and exiting learning experiences possible. Want to learn how to build and program a robot that has what it takes to meet the challenge? You will work as part of a team, alongside an award-winning teacher and FIRST Robotics Competition mentor as you learn to build and program competition capable robots! Group social skills such as cooperation, collaborative brainstorming, positive team building and more make this the perfect space for elementary creative types!
6-12th grade | Thursdays 5:45 - 7:00
| ROBOTICS and 3-D DESIGN
Makers Space Robotics and 3D Design: For our older students, time in the Maker Space allows for expanded exploration based on the creative platform of robotics and / or 3D Design. The VEX IQ system is used to teach programing and engineering design of fully functional robots. Our 3D design area of study begins by giving students the computer software skills to be able to bring their ideas to life. Using a variety of programs such as Inkscape, Tinkercad and SketchUp, we create our virtual models before printing them in plastic on one of our MakerBot 3D printers. Models are then inspected and tested to see if the product looks and functions as desired. Group social skills such as cooperation, collaborative bra
instorming, and positive team building make this the perfect space to make amazing projects and like-minded friends.
ECOBOT ROBOTICS TEAM | 6-8th grade| Scheduled Saturday Practices 10:00am-12:00pm
