Texas Bar Foundation Funds "Tech Tools" to improve lives of those with Autism

Houston, TX (May 21, 2017) - Social Motion's transition team, which serves young adults with autism spectrum disorders, is grateful for a unique grant from the Texas Bar Foundation which will provide technology training to enable those with disabilities to overcome social, legal and employment challenges. The honor is significant for the transition program as its students are learning to work and thrive in the modern world despite social and learning deficits.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $17 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation's largest charitably funded bar foundation.

The "Tech Tools" program will be designed to address the lack of supports available to teens and young adults as they age out of the school system and transcend to increased independence.

"Social Motion is taking a leading position in bringing technology training to our students with autism and similar special needs. The 'Tech Tools' program will enhance their abilities to live and function independently through training in safe cyber access, knowledge of how to seek and complete online applications, personal document management, online banking and access to personal assistive technology such as scheduling and communication programs." said Wendy Dawson, Social Motion Founder and Executive Director. "Technology can play a crucial role in addressing the continuing supports needed by individuals with special needs."

Equipping teens with life and work skills is just one of the many services Social Motion offers in the Houston community. Its programs are available to individuals from preschool to adulthood.
